Well, we had two weeks off (and by 'off' I mean we stayed within 30 miles of Katy) and it was really nice, but we broke the trend for a quick trip to Dallas to watch our Red Raiders against Baylor, and to catch up with old friends. I swear, we should just look into renting an apartment up there or something (aka the spare bedroom at Rachel and Cliff's!). I keep telling myself that one of these days, we are going to be so consumed with soccer games, PTO meetings, piano lessons, doctor appointments, etc. that we will WISH our weekends were full of college football, weddings, parties, dinners, BBQs, and random vacays...(sigh)
Anyways...the weekend was so much fun! We got into Dallas Friday evening and met John, Allison, and Louise at John's 'apartment with a view' before going out for dinner and drinks in uptown. We got burgers at this amazing place called State & Allen and sipped wine on the patio before heading to Quarter Bar to meet up with more of our friends. It turned into quite the reunion and oh my gosh it was fun. Let me just tell you that Quarter Bar sells this amazing little drink, frozen whiskey and coke. It is seriously like an Icee for adults, sooo yummy! One was all I needed ;)
Saturday, after mimosas and muffns, we went to the Cotton Bowl for the football game. It was a beautiful day for college football and we pulled out quite a win (my heart rate was up most of the game). I was cheering on my team, had my guns up, and sang the fight song, BUT I definitely took advantage of this amazing opportunity to use my new camera. I tested out the telephoto lens, along with several others, and am SO happy with the photos I captured. Loving this camera! Sure, I probably annoyed my husband and friends by switching lenses every time our team had the ball, but it was worth it! Check em out:
Right before kickoff
Touchdown!!
I thought this pic was okay...until I saw the tumblers in mid-air! Awesome!
Because the State Fair of Texas is currently under way at the Cotton Bowl, we got tickets with our game tickets, and who are we to pass up an opportunity for fresh squeezed lemonade and a crisp corn dog?! Other than going to check out the car show, that is literally all we did at the fair -- eat. We had corn dogs, lemonade, shoestring onion rings, and funnel cake. We even sampled some of the featured fried food: fried grilled cheese and club salad wrap. Yes, I typed that last one correctly. And yes, I thought it was gross. In fact, I really wish I would have just ate my corndog and called it a day. The five of us left the fair feeling lethargic and a little gross.
We had a pretty chill rest of the weekend and headed home Sunday morning. I never realized how much I miss Dallas until this trip, and I am really looking forward to visiting again soon when I attend my photography workshop in a few weeks. Thanks, John, for being such a wonderful host!!!
The calendar is filling up in our house and we are all but booked into the new year. You think I'm kidding. But we are actually looking forward to the things on our calendar that round out the last quarter of 2010:
** Halloweeeeeeeeen :) I kinda want to make Tess a spider costume!
** Attending my first ever photography workshop! Can I please tell you how giddy I am over this?!
** New Orleans for our anniversary. Nuff said :)
** My first photo sessions!
** Trip to Tyler
** Hosting (yea, us) Thanksgiving at our house this year!
** Black Friday shopping with my mom and sis
** Christmas Tree Farm with the in-laws
** Our Christmas Party
** Troy's birthday
** Mom's graduation -- She will finally be a DOCTOR!! Specifically a PhD, but still, Dr. Hughes!
** 4 Christmases, the last year (for a while) that we will do this.
On the agenda for this weekend: spending most of my time on the computer working on design projects. Sounds boring, but I am ecstatic to be staying home this weekend :)
